Instructional Technology Resource Teacher

Sheryl Sylvia

As the Instructional Technology Resource Teacher (ITRT) at South Anna Elementary, my job is to integrate  technology into the curriculum in order to meet the needs of our 21st Century Learners.  Need more       information on why we need to teach 21st Century Skills?  Click here to watch a video created by Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod.

At South Anna, we implement this program with a collaborative approach.  The teacher plans with the ITRT, and teaches the lesson with the ITRT.  It is also a professional opportunity for the teachers at South Anna to learn different software programs purchased by the county, and how to use them effectively for a classroom lesson.

ITRTs in the county are also responsible for creating and maintaining a Blackboard site titled, Tech Ponds.  This is a site that has suggested websites that may help prepare your child for SOL testing.  It is organized by grade level, subject area, and SOL.    Click here to get directions on how to login to Tech Ponds.

Teachers are creating a classroom site in Blackboard that will allow you to login through your child’s lunch number and birthdate to see updates/announcements that pertain to his/her classroom.   Blackboard allows for greater student enhancement by connecting parents, students, teachers, and staff.

In addition, the ITRTs are also responsible for implementing a state mandated Internet Safety Lesson.  This is taught within the first nine weeks of school and modeled throughout the year using the Tech Ponds site.  If you have any questions about the ITRT program, you may email:  ssylvia@hcps.us

Technology Coach

 Heather Brazier

As the Technology Coach, it is my responsibility to assist South Anna faculty and staff in the implementation of the various technological devices and software available in the school. I answer questions about system software such as email, the internet/intranet, the interim grading system, and Blackboard. I offer staff development on our various hardware and software applications. I keep current records of subscription programs available for use by SAES faculty and collaborate with teachers regarding ways to integrate such programs into regular classroom use. Finally, I offer competency training and tests for the HCPS’ Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher, online database use and management, file management, the internet/intranet, Technology Vocabulary, the Copyright/Fair Use Policy and Hanover Academic Network (HAN) Regulations.
