I would like to welcome you to Rural Point Elementary School.  It is my privilege to continue to serve this community as Principal for the this school year. I look forward to making many more memories and lasting relationships.

I am a product of the Hanover County Public School System and am excited to be returning to my former elementary school.  I received my Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and Educational Leadership Certification from Virginia Commonwealth University.  I have worked in Hanover County for Seventeen years, nine as an eighth grade math teacher, two as a sixth grade senior teacher, three years as an elementary assistant principal, and three years as Rural Pointís principal.

I am honored to be a part of the Rural Point family and look forward to working with each of you throughout the school year.  I welcome your involvement and suggestions to continue the tradition of learning and academic excellence that has been created by the supportive and dedicated teachers, staff, parents and community members of Rural Point Elementary School.  I am committed to working with you and this wonderful staff to make sure our children have an educational experience they deserve.  Please feel free to e-mail me at ncurrie@hcps.us or call 723-3580 if I can be of any assistance.

Thank you for your support.

Mrs. Currie

Rural Point participates in the Virginia State Assessment Program. Students in grade three complete the Virginia Standards of Learning tests in English (Reading and Writing), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.  Grade 4 students will take the Virginia Studies, Reading and Math tests.  Students in grade 5 complete an SOL Writing test in March and take SOL tests in Reading, Mathematics, and Science. This year, all SOL tests will be completed online. In addition, fourth grade students create a writing sample, which is then rated.  The results of all standardized testing are used to assess and improve our educational programs and to meet needs of all students.  Students identified to be at-risk will be supported through both In-School and After-School tutoring programs later in the school year.

Questions or concerns about bus transportation are usually directed to the assistant principal.  All bus routes are posted in the front foyer of the school as well as listed in the local newspaper before the start of each school year.  Rural Point is lucky to have experienced bus drivers who safely transport our children each day.  For children who do not take advantage of county provided transportation, Rural Point has a staff member in the cafeteria monitoring students dropped off between 7:30am and 7:45am.  At the end of each day, the cafeteria and front hall are staffed to assure that all students are signed out properly by an authorized adult.

Rural Point welcomes parents, relatives, and friends as volunteers or visitors.  Anyone entering the building is asked to stop in the office and sign in on the computer to get a name badge. All volunteers are asked to complete a Volunteer Application form.

The principal and assistant principal are both ready to meet with parents and other members of the community to answer questions about Rural Pointís many diverse programs and innovative activities.
