Non-Participation/Medical Excuses
Please send a signed note explaining the nature of the medical condition and indicating whether the child should be completely exempt or allowed limited participation in P.E.   Physician notes are appreciated and copies will be kept on file.  Students with medical notes are required to attend P.E. and will be given an alternative activity during class time that is P.E. related.  Students who have limited P.E. may ride the exercise bike or participate in non-contact activities if permissible.

Physical Fitness Testing

Students in 3rd-5th grade participate in physical fitness testing twice a year at Pole Green. Students perform 4 fitness tests in the Fall and 5 fitness tests in the Spring. Spring scores are used to determine physical fitness awards for 4th and 5th graders.

Students are tested for the following fitness components:

Extracurricular Activities

"Fit for Life"
A youth running program sponsored by the Sports Backers organization in Richmond that encourages students to stay fit and exercise through running. Students may voluntarily participate and log their miles to complete a "marathon" in both the Fall and the Spring. Students finish their last mile in style in downtown Richmond. Watch for information in Tuesday Folders!

Club Fitness
An after school club on Tuesdays for 4th and 5th grade students that promotes lifetime fitness. Students are required to complete an application to become a member.

Jump Rope for Heart
A school wide event held during the month of February that helps raise money for the American Heart Association in the fight against heart disease and strokes.

Field Day
A fun-filled athletic event that promotes teamwork and sportsmanship for the PGES community. Field Day typically occurs around the end of May/beginning of June.
