Lisa Thompson (Principal)

Mrs. Lisa Thompson is principal of Kersey Creek Elementary School. Prior to that, she was an elementary classroom teacher, lead reading and intervention teacher, assistant principal and principal in King William County.  Mrs. Thompson received her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She completed her graduate work at the University of Richmond.  She is a product of Hanover County Schools graduating from Lee- Davis High School in 1987.  She is married and has two sons, also products of Hanover County Public Schools, who attend University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.  Favorite things to do are gardening, spending time at the beach and decorating.  You can reach Mrs. Thompson at

Carrie Cicuto (Assistant Principal)

Mrs. Cicuto joins the Kersey Creek community after serving as an Associate Principal in Henrico County. Prior to that role she worked at the central office level and began her career as a teacher for students with disabilities, spending the majority of those years teaching students with autism. Ms. Cicuto is a National Board Certified teacher who is passionate about supporting all students, as they strive to achieve their daily best. She believes that relationships and connections with students and families is critical. Paige Fearnow  (Administrative Assistant) was hired as the schools 12-month Administrative Assistant.  She is a native of Hanover and resides in Mechanicsville.  Paige is a graduate of the Hanover County School System.  Prior to joining Hanover County Paige came from a Richmond law firm where she was the Office Manager.  She is married and has three children; Austin, Alex, and Allyson. Paige enjoys spending time with her family, scrap booking and assisting with the children’s musicals and other activities at her church. She can be reached at

MaLinda Washington (Systems Operator)  previously worked at Bon Secours Health Systems in the Information Systems department for 13 yrs. She has a Degree in Information Systems concentrating on Internetworking technology. She  has a 1yr old daughter, Makenzie, and enjoys spending time with her family. Her hobbies includes doing hair, crocheting, going to events, museums, and parks. I love anything blue and butterflies.

Teresa Nelson (Nurse) brings several years of pediatric experience to Kersey Creek Elementary. She has been married for over 20 years and has a son and a daughter. She has lived in Hanover for the past 15 years. She enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with her family. She can be reached at:

Donna Smith grew up in Mechanicsville She received her BA from Randolph Macon and her BS in Early Childhood Education from VCU. Erika Stockner is a North Carolina native.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2005 with a Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a concentration in ages Birth – Kindergarten.  She spent the first two years of her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher in North Carolina before moving to Virginia.  For the past seven years she taught both Pre-K and first grade in Henrico County.  Mrs. Stockner resides in Mechanicsville with her husband and two young sons, and enjoys going to the beach, spending time with family and friends, and curling up with a good book in her spare time.  Mrs. Stockner can be reached at

Heather Wyatt
was born and raised in Henrico County.  She graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 2011 with a bachelors degree in History and a minor in Elementary Education.  She previously taught Kindergarten and 3rd Grade at Mechanicsville Elementary and spent three years in Henrico teaching Kindergarten and 1st Grade. Casey Feigenbutz grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. She graduated from the University of Virginia . Her favorite activity is reading and she enjoys sharing her love of reading with her students. Kimberly Stokes, a native of Richmond, Virginia, graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. She also obtained her Elementary Education Certification the same year. She previously taught Kindergarten at Pearson’s Corner Elementary School and is extremely thankful for the experience and memories.  Aside from her love of teaching young children, she has interest in sports and animals. Stephanie Pruett grew up in Powhatan, Virginia.  She graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education and specialized in social studies.  While at Liberty she was on the cheerleading squad.  For the past 2 years Stephanie has taught Kindergarten at Amelia Academy.  She lives in Powhatan with her 3 dogs and 2 cats.  In her free time Stephanie enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to the beach, and playing sports.  Mrs. White can be reached at

Debbie Jackson brings 23 years of teaching experience to the classroom. After teaching in sixth and second grade, she came to Hanover to teach first grade for the past 11 years. Lucy Seward has been teaching in Hanover County for 18 years. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master of Teaching degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Seward spends her free time reading and shopping.  She has a wonderful husband (Donnie) and an enthusiastic middle schooler (Seth) and an energetic 6 year old (Evan) who will be a kindergartner here at KCES. Cheryl Marcus previously taught Head Start at Cold Harbor Elementary before becoming the Head Start Education Coordinator at the School Board Office. She will begin her ninth year of teaching fourth grade at Kersey Creek Elementary this year. Ms. Marcus has a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership. Ms. Goodloe is a Hanover County native and product of Hanover County Schools. Samantha Davis
Samantha Davis (2nd grade) grew up in Hanover, Virginia. She attended Randolph-Macon College and received a degree in Art History, Studio Art, and Elementary Education. While attending school, she had the opportunity to intern at the Science Museum of Virginia to begin the development of their elementary curriculum program. Her hobbies include painting, baking, and hanging out with friends and family during her free time. She loves animals and her family is apart of the agricultural community. Third Grade

Colette Kelly has just moved to the Richmond area from Concord, NH where she taught first grade for four years.  Originally from New Jersey, Ms. Kelly has also taught third grade in New Jersey and first grade in Georgia.  Ms. Kelly has also lived in Boston and Salem, MA and Manhattan.  She loves to read and travel (see above!) and enjoys spending time with her husband Jack and their two very active dogs. Ms. Kelly can be reached at

Melissa Lowder is excited to be teaching third grade again! She graduated from the University of Virginia in 2005 with her Masters of Teaching in Elementary Education. Marti Powell  grew up in Ohio.  She graduated with a BSE in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University.  She received her MSE from the University of Central Arkansas.  Mrs. Powell has taught Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, First, Second and Third Grade in Texas, Arkansas, Florida and North Carolina.  She and her husband, Steve, have two grown children, Maddie and Ben.  The Powell’s have lived in Arkansas, Maryland, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina for the past twenty-five years. Susan Sved grew up in Ashland, and taught third grade at John M. Gandy Elementary School for eighteen years. This is her ninth year at Kersey Creek. Raised by two educators, she is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in history from Randolph-Macon College, and holds a BS degree in elementary education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Jenna Burns

Fourth Grade  
Kelley Fleenor has lived in the Hanover area all of her life and is a product of Hanover County Public Schools. She earned her Master of Teaching degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and has been teaching since 2012. She has previously taught in Caroline County for the past three years before joining the Kersey Creek team. Ms. Fleenor loves spending time with her friends, family, and her animals! Ashton Sutton  Ashton Sutton is a product of Hanover County Public Schools and is so happy to be back home teaching. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Radford University in Elementary Education. Krista Robb  
I grew up in Lancaster County, also known as, the Northern Neck. I graduated from Lynchburg College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Education.  I received my Masters in Education with a Reading Specialist endorsement from Regent University this past spring. Madeline Hardy

Stephanie Miller has been both fourth and fifth grade teacher at KCES and has also taught first and second grades.  She received her Masters of Teaching degree in May 1997, a master of Interdisciplinary Studies: Mathematics & Science Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2008. Susan DiBagno graduated from Pennsylvania State University and George Mason University. She has taught fourth grade in Virginia since 2001. Mrs. DiBagno lives with her husband, Ric, and two daughters. Her older child, Christina, is a student at VCU. The younger, Samantha, attends Atlee High School. Special Education

Mariann Brush, physical therapist, was born in Newport News, VA.  She came to Richmond in August of 2000 to attend Virginia Commonwealth University's doctoral physical therapy program. She has been working with the Hanover County Public School System since 2004. She covers all the central and eastern schools within the county (elementary to high) and also works with the Infant and Toddler Connection of Hanover which works with children birth to 3 years of age. You can reach Mrs. Brush at

Anne King has been teaching school since 2001.  Prior to Kersey Creek’s opening, she taught at Pearson’s Corner Elementary School for 5 years.  Mrs. King has lived in Hanover County her entire life.  She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Ashland and then from Mary Washington College with a BS in Business Administration.  She worked in the accounting field for many years before returning to VCU and obtaining her Master's degree in Education in 2005.  She and her husband, Norman, live in Mechanicsville with their two children and five cats. Her daughter Lindsay graduated from James Madison University and works in medical sales.  Her son Matthew is finishing his degree in Medical Technology at VCU.  Mrs. King loves going to the Outer Banks to collect weathered sea glass and shells. Cynthia Pack has been a special education teacher in Hanover County for over 10 years. She earned her Master's degree in Special Education from Regent University and her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from V.C.U. Christine Pope is the Lead Speech Pathologist for the county, and also works with students in grades 3-5.  She attended JMU and the University of Connecticut for graduate school. She lives in Hanover County with her husband, 16 year old son, and two dogs. Her eldest son attends VCU, studying graphic design, and her daughter attends DIckinson College. Amy Press was born and raised in Hanover County. Judi Stuart is an occupational therapist. She received her degree in occupational therapy from VCU/MCV. Ms. Stuart is trained and certified in Sensory Integration and Praxis testing (SIPT), autism assessment, and has training in neurodevelopment treatment. Mrs. Stuart also serves several other schools in the central and eastern corridors. Mrs. Donna Midyette is thrilled to be working with the students, parents, and staff at Kersey Creek as a classroom resource teacher! In addition to teaching at KCES, Mrs. Midyette has taught at Pearson's Corner ES & Rural Point ES.  Mrs. Midyette received her undergraduate degree from James Madison University and received her teaching certification from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is married and has a grown daughter and son. Hannah Perry was born and raised in Glen Allen, Virginia. This past year, she graduated from Roanoke College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Elementary Education.  She is currently pursuing a Master’s of Education in Teaching and Learning: Special Education with an Autism-Specific Certification through Liberty University. Hannah enjoys exploring around town, spending time outdoors, working out at the gym, shopping, eating out with friends and spending time with her family. Resource Teachers
Paige Abasolo (School Counselor) is a native of Highland Springs, Virginia and graduated from Highland Springs High School.  She attended Old Dominion University and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology.  After teaching in a private pre-kindergarten classroom, she pursued a career in teaching and obtained her early childhood teacher certification at Norfolk State University.  Paige began a ten year period as a second and third grade teacher in Virginia Beach and Lubbock, Texas. While living in Texas, she acquired her master’s degree in counselor education at Texas Tech University.  Shortly afterwards, Paige became an elementary school counselor.  She spent one year as a counselor in Texas and four years in the city of Richmond.  For enjoyment, she values the time spent with her young son, Abraham.  She also loves scrapbooking, watching "reality" television, and spending time with friends and family. Ami Balderson (part time school counselor)  will be at KCES on Mondays and Thursdays serving all grade levels. Mrs. Balderson graduated from Davidson College with a B.A. in Psychology and from Old Dominion University with a M. Ed. in Counselor Education. Mrs. Balderson began her school counseling experience in 2000 in Hanover County. She currently resides in Mechanicsville with her husband and two children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, cooking, going to the beach, shopping, and traveling. Lisa Burns (Educational Diagnostician) was a Special Education Teacher for thirteen years and now serves as a county Educational Diagnostician. She earned her Master's Degree in Special Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995.  Mrs. Burns and her husband Joe have two children, one at Chickahominy Middle School and one at Atlee High School. Sandy Dacus (Music Teacher) has her bachelor's degree in music education from the Wheaton College Conservatory in Wheaton, IL. In addition to teaching in public schools since 1986, she has been a licensed Kindermusik instructor, a music director for Virginia Repertory Company, Dogwood Dell, and SPARC, a pianist for many theater companies and churches, and an alto in the Richmond Symphony Chorus. She has two grown children (Lucy and Charlie), who have always shared her love for music. In her spare time, Ms. Dacus enjoys cycling with RABA and eating really good food! Mary Dickerson (Art Teacher) has two fine arts degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and is now working on her Master's in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a focus in Crafts and Mixed Media. Mrs. Dickerson’s art career began as an Interior Designer, with a specialty in retail store design and health facilities.  Her career path now finds her teaching art.  Having taught now for 11 years now, she enjoys sharing her life long passion of the arts with her students.  Mrs. Dickerson also enjoys gardening and has been the driving force for the garden program at KCES. She lives in Ashland, in the house she designed, with her husband and golden retriever Abby. Her two sons are in college, the oldest attends West Point Military Academy and the younger son is attending Bridgewater College and runs track and field. Mrs. Dickerson can be reached at

Mrs. Watson (Part time Art teacher) is happy to be traveling from her home school of Beaverdam E.S. to teach art at Kersey Creek twice a week. She grew up in Beaverdam and now lives in Montpelier with her husband, son, two dogs, two cats, and two goats. In her free time, Mrs. Watson loves to create art of her own, read, and spend time with her family. She looks forward to helping her KCES students blossom as artists over the school year!

Kim Eads (Librarian)
loves books!  A few of her favorite authors are Mo Willems, Eric Carle, JK Rowling, and Chris Grabenstein.  Mrs. Eads graduated in 2005 from the College of William and Mary and has since added a Gifted and Talented Certification and a Library Media Endorsement to her Elementary Education Endorsement.  Prior to being in the library, she taught second, third, and fifth grade. Dori Heimlich (School Psychologist) is a native of Chesterfield, VA.  She attended college at Virginia Tech, where she received her B.S. in Psychology in 2005.  Mrs. Heimlich then attended graduate school at UNC Chapel Hill, earning her M.A. in School Psychology in 2008.  She and her husband, Greg, reside in Hanover County with their daughter and fur-baby.  In her spare time, Mrs. Heimlich enjoys spending time with family and friends, shopping, reading, cooking, traveling, and trying out all of the great restaurants Richmond has to offer.  She is very excited to join the Kersey Creek staff!  Mrs. Heimlich can be reached at

Jennifer Hicks (ITRT)

…is a former K, 1st, and 4th grade teacher, and has spent most of her career as a technology resource teacher.  Mrs. Hicks works with students and teachers to integrate technology into the daily curriculum.  She enjoys helping them with technology tools and resources to support digital age teaching and learning. She is a graduate of VCU with an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and an M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision. Eric Monger (Physical Education) has lived in Mechanicsville all his life and graduated from Atlee High School. In 2011 he received his Master's degree from James Madison University in Health and Physical Education. Mr. Monger enjoys working out and participating in any sport or activity that allows him to be outdoors and active. He also enjoys volunteering in his community, working with students in his youth group and at Oak Hill

Ms. Kimberly Arnall (part time Physical Education teacher) was born and raised in Henrico County. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010. Ms. Arnall is excited to be working with Mr. Monger and the students at Kersey Creek. She is also the P.E. teacher at Beaverdam Elementary School. In her free time, Ms. Arnall loves spending times with her family and friends, coaching, going to the beach, working with Special Olympics, and playing basketball and softball. She also loves to do fun runs (Spartan, Tough Mudder, Rugged Maniac, Color Runs, and 10Ks) and participate in adventurous activities. Ms. Arnall looks forward to helping her students reach their full potential and achieve success at the Creek.

Jennifer Sanders (Reading Specialist) is thrilled to be the new reading specialist at KCES!  Since graduating from  Longwood  University  in 2003, she has taught first, second, and third grade in both Prince William and  Hanover  County   . Mrs. Sanders received her Masters of Education in Reading  with a Reading Specialist Endorsement from VCU. In 2012, she became Nationally Board Certified in Literacy and Language Arts.  Mrs. Sanders loves to read (especially on the beach!), run, and hang out with her husband (Larry), two sons (Hayden and Dean), and 2 dogs (Dallas and Lucy)!  She would, however, like to clarify that although her dog's name is Dallas, she is a Redskins fan through and through!

Mrs. Stephanie Ransome (part time Music Teacher) is excited to work with Ms. Dacus and the Kersey Creek family! She is also the music teacher at Beaverdam Elementary school. Originally from Harrisonburg, Mrs. Ransome now calls Richmond her home with her husband, Jaraun and two daughters, Jada and Jenna. Mrs. Ransome loves to play her oboe, swim and sing. She hopes to help her new friends at Kersey Creek experience, read and compose music so that they will be able to "Find Their Own Voice".

Instructional Assistants

Karina Acacia moved to Virginia from upstate NY where she worked at an elementary school as a teaching assistant in a self-contained special education room.  She has also worked as a 1:1 aide to a Sp. Ed. student, as a library aide, and has much experience substituting in special education rooms as well as general education rooms.  She has her degree in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology, from Florida Atlantic University. She enjoys anything art related, cooking, and gardening.

Mandi Petrin I grew up in a very small town in Michigan and have been living in Virginia for the last 14 years. I have 3 children with the youngest being a Junior at Lee Davis High School.  I enjoy spending time with family near and far, and look forward to what the future has in store for me.

Brien Britt is a Mechanicsville native and she graduated from Lee Davis High School.  She has been married to her husband, Craig, for 30 years, and they have two sons, Christopher and Patrick.  Before coming to Kersey Creek, she first worked as a construction estimator and then enjoyed 14 years of being a stay at home mom. Sally Craymer (SOL Tutor) loves to help develop strong readers!  Sally has a lot of experience in teaching reading.  She was the part time Reading Specialist at Beaverdam Elementary for 13 years, and has also taught in Chesapeake, Stafford, and Chesterfield Counties. Sally graduated from Va. Tech in Elementary Ed. and received her Master's in Reading from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Sally enjoys  traveling, hiking, and skiing with her family, and she loves READING!

Lisa Gilman 
Lisa grew up in northern NJ and moved to VA in 1994.  She received her undergraduate degree from West Chester University and her Masters Degree in Special Education from VCU. Prior to working at KCES, Lisa taught at Lee-Davis but stopped working after her son was born in 2001.   She is married, has 3 children and a very crazy labradoodle.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, going to her children's sporting events and traveling.

Carrie Johnson graduated from Patrick Henry High school. She lives in Mechanicsville with her husband, Joe and her 3 children, Jessica, Taylor, and her son, Riley. Sandra Knuckles (Instructional Assistant) Wingapo - Algonquian language for “Hello”  Mrs. Knuckles is a native of Virginia. She is proud of her native heritage. She lived most of her childhood growing up on the Mattaponi Indian Reservation in King William County. From there she moved to Alameda California for middle school grades and then to Jacksonville Florida for High School at Forrest High. She moved back to Virginia and has called it her home for the past 33 years, living in Montpelier, Hanover County with her husband Wayne. She has 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters, all married except her daughter Mickie. She has 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson. Before working for the Hanover School System she was a machinist for over 15 years running large machinery for metal fabrication by working with Cad Cam programming on the computers and two Drawings to run the machines, reading blueprints and cad drawings. She completed all her training for cad drawing and Fabriwin programming in Chicago IllinoisShe began working for Hanover as a substitute teacher for 4 years until employed full time as an Instructional Assistant at The Hanover Center for Trade and Technology for the past 3 years. Tina Mathews  has two children, Scott, 21, and Samantha, 21, (that's right TWINS!) who are attending J. Sarg. Reynolds. They have a Labrador retriever named Suzie. Ms. Mathews had lived in Chesapeake for the 22 years having relocated to Hanover County in June 2005. She was a Special Education Instructional Assistant for the Chesapeake Public Schools for two and one-half years prior to relocating to Hanover. She worked with first and second grade in self-contained, resource, and collaborative settings. She was previously a Special Education Instructional Assistant at Pearson's Corner Elementary School where she worked with first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade students. Jennifer Junod (SOL tutor) is thrilled to be teaching reading at Kersey Creek and looks forward to helping all of our Comets to further develop their love of books!  Originally from Saratoga Springs, NY, Mrs. Junod graduated from the University of Mary Washington and has her master's degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University, as well as her Reading Specialist Endorsement from Longwood University.  She has taught in Hanover since 2004, as both a classroom teacher and an SOL tutor.  She enjoys writing, traveling, hiking, paddleboarding, and volunteering with the Central VA Children's Book Bank at the Children's Museum of Richmond.  Mrs. Junod lives in Hanover with her husband and three children (Will, Maddie, and Lucy).

Cindy Waybright
Cindy was born in Richmond, VA and is a graduate of Lee Davis High School.  She lived in Maryland for 22 years and was a paraeducator for 14 years in Montgomery County Public Schools.  She worked with children in grades K - 5 with their writing, reading and math.  She has three grown children.  In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym, watching her youngest daughter play college soccer and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Sarah Richmond is thrilled to be working at Kersey Creek Elementary.  She calls Ashland home, after being born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  In Mrs. Richmond's free time, she enjoys spending time outside with her family, going back to Minnesota to visit family and friends, as well as coaching and playing volleyball.

Darlene Rogers Darlene has been in housekeeping for over 30 years.  This is her 2nd year at Kersey.  She has 3 beautiful children, 1 son and 2 daughters.  She also has 6 grandchildren - 3 boys and 3 girls and one goddaughter.  She loves working in the school system because she loves working with our Kersey students and staff.  She says our positive attitude makes it a joy to be here.  In her spare time, she loves spending time with her children and grandchildren eating out, going to parks and watching movies.  When she's not with them, she enjoys working with her co-workers or spending down time relaxing with a bit of t.v.  She wants to add that Kersey has a great attitude, and she can tell it doesn't matter who you are or what you do, everyone is well-respected. We are lucky to have such a caring comet!
