Reading Resource

Welcome to the reading resource web page.  Henry Clay’s reading program is designed  to accommodate all readers and to foster a successful experience for each student.

Our reading program includes a core of skills based on the Virginia SOLs and taught using the Harcourt Trophies series.  Each student is carefully monitored by a team consisting of their homeroom teacher and the reading staff to ensure that all students have the resources they need to achieve mastery.  Guided Reading principles are used to instruct students on their current reading levels.  This allows teachers the opportunity to not only help those readers who are
struggling at lower levels, but to also give higher readers the opportunity at challenging work.

If your child struggles in reading in general or only with a few skills, their teacher will arrange for intervention to take place.  Intervention strategies are chosen based on each student’s  needs.  The reading resource teachers and the homeroom teachers work as a team to make collaborative decisions for each student.  If you have questions about your child’s current reading progress, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
