Welcome to the reading
Henry Clay’s reading program is designed
to accommodate all readers and to foster a successful experience for each student.
Our reading program includes a core of skills
based on the Virginia SOLs and taught using the Harcourt
Each student is carefully monitored by a team consisting of their
homeroom teacher and the reading staff to ensure that
all students have the resources they need to achieve

those readers who are
struggling at lower levels, but to also give higher
readers the opportunity at challenging work.
If your child struggles in reading in general or only
with a few skills, their teacher will arrange for
intervention to take place.
Intervention strategies are chosen based on each
reading resource teachers and the homeroom teachers work
as a team to make collaborative decisions for each
student. If you
