Music Teacher

Welcome to an exciting musical year at Battlefield Park Elementary!

As always, our focus in music is to learn and explore different types and styles of music while playing instruments and singing a variety of songs.  We will also target sight reading this year.  Fifth graders will have many opportunities during our music classes to learn how to sight read and experience it first hand.  Sight reading is a way to improve reading skills and rhythmic notation skills.  Students look at a rhythm or piece of music and then after a set time, have to play it.  Sight reading really makes the student stronger note readers and rhythm readers.  I am looking forward to having your child in my music class!

Fifth graders will continue their recorder playing journey by achieving belts in Recorder Karate.  With each belt, the song gets progressively harder.  They will also be playing the xylophones to accompany their recorders.  Black Belts will get an award at the end of the year.

Music is a great way to spend time with your family as you listen, sing, and share your favorite songs!  Everyone has at least one song they remember from their childhood that evoked great memories.  Build some family bonding time with music and watch it bring a smile to your children’s faces!  See you in Music!
