• Hanover County Public Schools is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) and is the first school district in the nation to earn this accreditation from an international quality assurance review team.

  • Since 1996, Hanover schools have won ten National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence awards. Three Hanover schools have been recognized as NCLB National Blue Ribbon Schools: Cool Spring Elementary (2003); Beaverdam Elementary (2005); and Rural Point Elementary (2006).

  • Two Hanover schools have been named Virginia Distinguished Title I Schools (Elmont Elementary (2005) and Beaverdam Elementary (2005 & 2006).

  • Two Hanover schools (Liberty Middle and Patrick Henry High) were identified as demonstration sites for statewide Content Literacy Continuum-Strategic Instruction Model grants.

  • In 2005-06, with grant support from Hanover Arc and the Commonwealth of Virginia, Hanover launched an after school initiative pairing disabled students with non-disabled peers.

  • Hanover teachers have earned local, regional, state, and national awards and recognition.

  • The Atlee HS band marched in the New Year’s Day Parade in London, England in 2004.

  • Hanover County was named one of the Top 100 Communities in America for Music Education.

  • Hanover received the SchoolMatch “What Parents Want” designation for six consecutive years. 

  • Hanover has produced two World Champion Odyssey of the Mind teams: Patrick Henry High School (1994) and Rural Point Elementary School (2002).

  • Hanover claims several regional and state athletic championships.

  • Hanover was the first Virginia school district to receive the U. S. Senate Productivity and Quality Award for Continuing Excellence.
